From Beijing’s Lessons to Practical Solutions: Isphepho Group’s Next Step in Climate Resilience

In July 2025, Isphepho Group’s founder, Londiwe Mbuyisa, joined environmental leaders from around the world at the Seminar on Climate Change Response and Green Development in Beijing and Hefei, China.
The two-week programme, hosted by the China Meteorological Administration, provided a meaningful opportunity to see how sustainable cities are built  from clean, organised streets to advanced climate readiness systems.

Walking through Beijing’s well-kept neighbourhoods and witnessing technology integrated into everyday waste management was both encouraging and inspiring. The experience offered valuable perspectives on how environmental education, community involvement, and policy alignment can work together to create lasting change.

Linking Global Insights to Isphepho Programmes

While China and South Africa differ in context, the core principles of consistent action, strong partnerships, and practical innovation are universal.
Isphepho will explore ideas such as technology-supported waste collection and integrated climate readiness to strengthen school-based environmental education, community recycling partnerships, and stakeholder engagement programmes in Durban and surrounding areas.

Contributing to Organisational Growth

This trip was more than an exchange of ideas; it was a catalyst for organisational reflection and growth. Exposure to diverse approaches offers us tools to refine our operations, expand networks, and explore collaborations that ensure long-term sustainability.

Addressing Daily Realities

In the communities we serve, waste systems are often limited, recycling awareness varies, and environmental hazards like flooding have tangible impacts.
From Beijing, we bring back affordable, accessible waste collection models that could be adapted for South Africa’s unique conditions.

Recognition on the Global Stage

During the seminar, Ms. Mbuyisa delivered the closing address on behalf of all international participants a speech later featured in Chinese media. Her message emphasised that small, steady steps can create meaningful change.

A Commitment to Communities

This journey marks the start of a renewed chapter for Isphepho, one rooted in global learning, local action, and our unwavering mission to help communities build cleaner, healthier, and more climate-resilient futures.
